This page is dedicated to the 1997 WSU Rose Bowl team
The 1997 WSU Cougars football team was the best ever at Washington State University. They finished the year at #8 in the country. Not only that, but they came within 2 seconds of beating the co-national champions. We only lost by 5 points. The Cougs were led by Junior quarterback Ryan Leaf who placed himself as one of the greatest quarterbacks in Cougar history. He decided to forgo his Senior year and entered the NFL draft where he was picked #2 behind 5th year Senior Peyton Manning. Leaf also came in 3rd on the heisman ballot, behind Charles Woodson and Peyton Manning.
